Description

Accounts receivable professionals work in the accounting department. They record the information for accounts receivable and control the regular payment of the company's debts.

Duties

• Accounts receivable clerk

• Gather and prepare the accounting documents required to process accounts receivable
• Carry out bank deposits
• Gather sales information and enter them in the accounts receivable, separating out taxes
• Editing the aged trial balance
• Reconcile accounts receivable and resolve balance differences
• Handle collection procedures for delinquent accounts (this function may be handled by the collection clerk if such a position exists in the company)
• Be the customer contact person as regards their payments

Accounts receivable clerks work with collection clerks and billing clerks. Depending on the size of the company, one person may be responsible for all three functions.

• Accounts receivable supervisor

Supervisors oversee accounts receivable clerks. Several years of experience in accounts receivable are required to hold this type of job.

Skills

Method and thoroughness are essential, as instructions must be followed to the letter and attention paid to details.

Other important qualities include liking to work with numbers, an ability for abstract thought and problem-solving skills.

The job of supervisor requires personnel supervisory skills.

Salary

• Accounts receivable clerk: $27,750 to $35,500 a year
• Accounts receivable supervisor: $43,250 to $58,500 a year
